Smoked Burgers
Smoked Burgers
Total Time: 1 hour 30 minutes Yield: 6 x 1/4 pound Burgers
Ingredients
1 1/2 lbs ground beef
salt and pepper to taste
cheese ( optional)
burger buns (optional)
condiments – whatever your preference is – mayo, mustard, ketchup, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, pickles etc (optional)
Directions:
Divide ground beef into 6 equal portions and form 6 burger patties. Once the patties are shaped make an indentation in the middle. I use my finger and just poke it a little. The little dent you create will ensure even cooking and your burgers will not end up dome shaped. Spray the rack you’ll use for the burgers with non-stick cooking spray. It will help the meat not to stick and also make clean up a breeze.
Preheat your smoker to 225 degrees. Leave the smoker vent 3/4 open so the smoke and air can circulate properly. Once the smoker has reached 225 degrees place the rack with the burger patties into the smoker. We have a Masterbuild Electric Smoker and add liquid to our smoker. The liquid helps the meat stay moist while smoking. We usually add a can of beer in an aluminum pan that we can just throw out after. It’s easy and works great. We then add the wood chips. My family loves Hickory wood chips for burgers but you can use whichever chips you prefer. We like our Burgers medium so we cook them to about 135 degrees. Since we like cheese we put that on the burger patties just before the burgers are done. The cheese melts within a few minutes. You have to use a good thermometer and check the internal temperature of the meat to cook it to your liking. Our burgers usually take about 1 to 1 1/2 hours.
